Avenged Sevenfold Drummer Found Dead
Police say James Owen Sullivan, drummer and backup vocalist for rockers Avenged Sevenfold, has been found dead at his home in Southern California. Lt. John Domingo says the year old drummer appears to have died of natural causes on Monday, but the Orange County coroner’s office is investigating further. Having formed in 1999, Avenged Sevenfold won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006. They have reportedly been working on their fifth studio album. They released a statement yesterday expressing their sadness and calling Sullivan “one of the world’s best drummers” and “our best friend and brother.”
Lil Wayne Plays Farewell Show In New Orleans
Why is this news? Lil Wayne, at the peak of his career, who emerged as a top-selling musician known for his clever wordplay and risqué lyrics, is currently on his self-proclaimed “farewell tour,” which stopped in his hometown of New Orleans yesterday. The Grammy-Award winner is only 27 years old, but is facing up to a year sentence for a weapons charge for which he pleaded guilty to back in October. He also faces a trial in March on felony drug possession and weapons charges in Yuma County, Arizona. His next album, ‘Rebirth,’ which leaked on the Internet on December 16, is due for release on February 1. After New Orleans, he is scheduled to play several dates in Texas and another show in southern Louisiana.
HIM Looking Forward To Release Almost As Much As Fans
HIM will release their seventh studio album, ‘Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice,’ on February 9, and the band couldn’t be more excited. Frontman Ville Valo has stated that the 13-tune album is the group’s most “straightforward” and hook-filled release yet, and the hard-rocking outfit are almost as excited as their fans are for the upcoming release. Valo and his HIM members recorded ‘Screamworks’ in Los Angeles with producer Matt Squire. The band will begin touring in mid-February, with showcase dates in Europe and followed by a run on the Soundwave tour in Australia with Jane’s Addiction and Faith No More. HIM will then tour the U.K. and hit North America for a lengthy tour starting in mid-March, while also playing the European festival circuit this summer.
U.K. Decade Charts….
According to the Official Charts Company, James Blunt’s debut album, ‘Back to Bedlam,’ is the biggest U.K. seller of the decade. Following Blunt are Dido’s debut ‘No Angel,’ Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black,’ Leona Lewis’ ‘Spirit,’ and David Gray’s ‘White Ladder.’ Other discs receiving top-notch honors were The Beatles’ ‘1,’ Scissor Sisters’ self titled release, Coldplay’s ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head,’ and Take That’s ‘Beautiful World.’ Ironically, while James Blunt was enormous in the U.K., he’s known in the U.S. as another infamous One-Hit-Wonder. Congrats to Blunt regardless though.
