The Word-PhishSome people spend several months out of the year playing fantasy football or fantasy baseball, but come summertime, it’s all about fantasy tour for jam band fanatics across the country. On June 11, Phishing season officially began when Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, and Page McConnell took the stage at Toyota Park in Chicago, IL. These four guys make up Phish, a band that people not only phantasy tour, but have dedicated much of their lives to following all over the country. Why, you may ask? This band is like snowflakes—no two shows are ever alike. Consider the fact that Phish consistently delivers 3+ hour shows, with approximately 20 songs per show, and they didn’t repeat a single song until the fifth show of the tour this year. Even after that, the repeats are constantly reinvented and few and far between. Look around at a Phish show sometime, and you will see every person there who has a phone with internet access desperately looking up the [constantly updated!] set list during the set break to recreate what they just experienced. That is a phantasy tour.

When special occasions roll around, every holiday is Phishmas. If Phish books a holiday show (with Halloween being the most raved about), phans all over flock to buy tickets, book hotels and flights, and do everything in their power to be at what is sure to be a once in a lifetime show. This summer, Phish will spend Fourth of July weekend (Saturday, July 3, and Sunday, July 4) in Alpharetta, GA. With both nights sold out since tickets went on sale, the guys are sure to produce a phantastic phourth.
